I Am! Said the Lamb [excerpt], by Theodore Roethke

This morning I helped a group of students and teachers clean up some of the vacant blocks around our school. We probably filled close to twenty garbage bags in two hours. At one point, I overheard a few of my students talking & the conversation was odd; one was talking in the voice of an old man and seemed to be explaining something. I asked them about it and they told me that every time they found a strange piece of debris, they were making up stories for how it got there. I didn’t make a big deal about it because I didn’t want to ruin their fun, but I was doing a little happy dance in my heart.
For this week, I am planning on playing as much as possible. Odd topics, different personas, I might even attempt humor at some point.
