A most wonderful quote from James Paulding in Joel Greenberg’s A Natural History of the Chicago Region, in response to the no longer in existence Mount Joliet:

“It is however,… a production of the cunning hand of Nature, who sometimes it would seem, amuses herself by showing how much she can excel her illegitimate sister, Art, even in her most successful attempts at imitation. ”

I might add that maybe she isn’t illegitimate, but just a lot younger, forever trying to catch up to her much cooler big sister.
