My family does not practice any one religion. Rather, we use them all as excuses to get together and eat a lot and argue a lot and laugh a lot. Today we decorated cupcakes and had a tea ceremony of sorts.
My brother Nathan, a Spanish major at UW Milwaukee, introduced me to a poet who recently visited his campus, Ernesto Cardenal. It seems I should have already known who he was & I’m disappointed in myself, realizing how ethnocentric I have been in my reading selections. I don’t choose to only read Americans, but I don’t actively seek out poets from other countries either. So, here is yet another area in which I am ignorant, another area for growth.
