I love that poetry gets its own month. Today I spent the day brainstorming ways to celebrate with my students and now I’m considering how I’ll celebrate on my own. I know a number of poets have taken on a similar challenge to NANOWRIMO, and written a poem a day for the month of April and I think I’ll try that. I’m also going to force myself to write something here each day about how I interact with poetry.
To start off the month, I have several collections I’ll be reading during my independent reading time with students in class tomorrow. I admit that I’ve been reading a lot of novels and creative non-fiction, which I missed when I was working on my MFA, but I want to get back to studying poetry. I’ll also be jumping into other classes, working with students who are drafting poems for a portfolio project they will be completing this month.
The Academy of American Poets has a great list of ideas, 30 of them to be exact, available here.
